Cycling in Angel Fire
Best season: Late May–mid-October
Angel Fire is New Mexico’s gravity-riding capital. Angel Fire Bike Park claims the title of largest bike park in the Rocky Mountains, with more than 60 miles of purpose-built, lift-served trail and over 2,000 vertical feet dropping from the 10,650-foot top station of the Chile Express chairlift. The menu runs from manicured beginner flow to massive jump lines and the rocky “super chunk” tech the park is famous for, and the resort backs it up with clinics, guided sessions, and a full repair shop.
You don’t need to haul a downhill rig here. The resort’s base-area bike shop rents everything from junior Commencals to premium Santa Cruz and Transition downhill bikes, full-face helmet included, and pre-booking a day ahead saves real money. In town, The TrailHead rents carbon e-MTBs for the roughly 30-mile greenbelt cross-country network and Carson National Forest rides, and a local e-bike outfit will even deliver fat-tire e-bikes to your door.
The Lodge at Angel Fire Resort is the obvious base — it sits steps from the Chile Express, so you can roll from your room to the lift line. The season typically runs late May to mid-October; the village sits above 8,000 feet, so give yourself a day to acclimate, drink more water than feels necessary, and get your laps in before the afternoon monsoon build-up.
