Cycling in Chelan

Chelan’s riding fans out from the lakeshore town: paved lakeside routes and the Chelan Riverwalk for easy spinning, and — for gravel — the orchard and foothill roads climbing out of the valley toward the plateau above Manson and the Columbia River gorge benchlands, often strung together into winery loops. The wine-country gravel-and-pavement mix is the local signature, and most visitors sample it as an easy day out between tastings rather than a big backcountry day.
A thing to be honest about: bike rental here is essentially e-bike-only. Chelan Electric Bikes (204 E Wapato Ave) is the long-running original, renting electric cruisers and fat-tire e-bikes and running guided winery and Columbia Gorge tours; Max Rentals also rents e-bikes around the valley. If you want a traditional analog gravel bike, you will need to bring your own — the local rental fleet is built around pedal-assist bikes for winery cruising.
For lodging, Campbell’s Resort is the landmark waterfront base — a historic downtown-Chelan resort with 1,800 feet of private beach, walkable to the Riverwalk waterfront park and within a few blocks of the town’s e-bike shops. It has no bike program of its own, so treat it as a well-placed lakeside base next to the rental shops rather than a bike-equipped hotel.
Every January the lake celebrates Lake Chelan Winterfest, two weekends of ice carving, a large beach bonfire, and fireworks — an off-season reason to visit long after the summer cycling crowds have gone.
