Cycling in Fayetteville

Best season: March–November

Home to the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is regularly ranked among the most bike-friendly cities in the country — and it rides like it. Downtown is Mile Zero of the Razorback Regional Greenway, a flat, paved trail network that runs roughly 40-plus miles north to Springdale, Rogers, and Bentonville, stringing together breweries, coffee, and campus along the way. For dirt, Kessler Mountain Regional Park mixes hand-cut technical singletrack with bike-optimized flow, linked to town by the intermediate Fayetteville Traverse loop.

Base yourself downtown at the Graduate by Hilton Fayetteville, a block off the square, which lends guests complimentary bikes for spinning out to Dickson Street, campus, and the Greenway. Riders who prefer to be right on the trail can look at the Courtyard by Marriott, which sits directly on the Greenway — a roll-from-the-door base that pairs well with a nearby rental.

To gear up, Highroller Cyclery on West Spring Street rents and services bikes a short ride from the square, Phat Tire has a Fayetteville branch for MTB, gravel, and e-bike rentals, and the university’s UREC shop rents Marin mountain and hybrid bikes. For a car-free spin, VeoRide dockless bikeshare covers the paved routes.

Spring and fall are prime for the Kessler singletrack; the paved Greenway rides comfortably most of the year. Summers here are hot and humid, so aim for early mornings and carry plenty of water on the longer greenway pushes north.
