Cycling in Healdsburg

Healdsburg is a road cyclist’s town first. Three celebrated wine valleys fan out directly from the downtown Plaza on quiet, scenic lanes: West Dry Creek Road, a classic nearly-shoulderless vineyard road; the rolling loops of the Alexander Valley; and the Russian River corridor. The terrain ranges from flat valley-floor spinning to punchy foothill climbs, and gravel riders can link vineyard and ridge roads into longer days. Spring and fall are the sweet spots — dry and mild, with harvest color in September and October — while summer inland heat and the winter rains bracket the season.
Lodging in Healdsburg is unusually bike-forward. Three sister hotels under Piazza Hospitality — Hotel Healdsburg, Harmon Guest House, and h2hotel — all participate in the Pete Stetina Pro Cycling Experience, lending guests GPS units preloaded with local routes rated green through double-black and offering bookable guided rides. Hotel Healdsburg and Harmon Guest House go further with complimentary town cruisers from their own fleets. These are walkable-downtown properties a block or two off the Plaza, so you can ride from the door.
For rentals, Wine Country Bikes (402 Moore Lane) is the full-service shop, renting hybrids, road bikes, and Specialized Turbo e-bikes and running guided Dry Creek Valley wine rides. Spoke Folk Cyclery (201 Center Street) rents road and hybrid bikes by the hour or day and requires an in-person waiver and helmet. There is no public bike-share in town, and Spoke Folk’s own site lists no e-bike or gravel rentals — bring your own gravel rig if that’s your plan.
Every May the Healdsburg Future Farmers Country Fair & Twilight Parade runs down the main street with livestock, food, and a carnival — a community tradition since 1950, set among the same vineyard back roads cyclists come to ride.
