Cycling in Las Vegas
Best season: October–May
Las Vegas hides a world-class ride twenty minutes west of the casinos: the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive, a one-way loop road climbing through banded sandstone in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Tour operators run it as a roughly 17-mile e-bike outing, and strong road riders stretch the day to nearly 30 miles by rolling out from Summerlin. Sunrise light on the Calico Hills alone is worth the alarm clock.
Summerlin, the master-planned district at the canyon’s doorstep, is where cyclists should stay. The Element Las Vegas Summerlin takes part in its brand’s Bikes to Borrow program, lending bicycles to guests free of charge — handy for the neighborhood trail network even if you rent something faster for the canyon. Las Vegas Cyclery, the area’s flagship shop, rents everything from $50 hybrids to carbon race bikes and e-mountain bikes, and Giant’s three valley stores add 24-hour rentals.
If you’d rather be guided, half-day e-bike tours shuttle riders from the Strip to the scenic loop with helmets, water, and a sweeper van included. Book morning slots: the loop has no shade, and the park charges a small per-rider entry fee on the drive.
Prime season runs October through May. Summer riding is possible but means dawn starts, and the scenic drive’s climbs feel much longer at 105°F.
