Cycling in Oakridge

Oakridge sits in the Willamette National Forest at the edge of the Cascade Range, about 45 miles southeast of Eugene, and is one of Oregon’s signature mountain-bike destinations. It’s a designated IMBA Ride Center, and its calling card is a network of long forest descents — the world-known Alpine Trail (roughly a 13-mile, 4,200-foot descent shuttled from Westfir), plus Dead Mountain, Hardesty, Lawler, and Larison Rock.

Because many of the best trails are point-to-point descents, shuttles are central to a trip here. Cog Wild runs daily shuttles and guided rides from its Uptown Oakridge headquarters (May–October), and Westfir-based Trans Cascadia Excursions offers day passes, multi-ride packs, and guided-only backcountry rides. For a bike-first stay, Westfir Lodge markets itself as bike-in/bike-out to the Alpine and North Fork trailheads with secure storage, a wash station, and its own shuttle; Cog Wild also offers a simple Uptown Oakridge vacation-rental house with garage bike storage.

In town, the Oakridge Bike Shop (Willamette Mountain Mercantile) rents and demos Ibis, Santa Cruz, and Salsa bikes, and Cog Wild rents full-suspension mountain bikes and e-bikes. The riding season runs roughly May through October.

Oakridge is the mountain-bike capital of the Pacific Northwest, and each June it hosts Mountain Bike Oregon, a three-day guided-riding festival built around the town’s legendary singletrack, with bike demos, shuttles, and camping included.
