Ridgeland is the Jackson metro’s cycling front door to the Natchez Trace Parkway. The signature ride is the Chisha Foka Multi-Use Trail, a paved path that parallels the Parkway right through town — from the Choctaw Agency site near milepost 100.7 up to the Ross Barnett Reservoir overlook at milepost 105.6 — so you get the Trace’s tunnel-of-trees scenery without sharing the motor road. Water stations dot the route, and the Parkway Information Cabin at milepost 102.4 makes a handy midpoint stop.
What sets Ridgeland apart in Mississippi is how easy it is to get on a bike: the city runs a free bikeshare (unlock via the Koloni app, helmets included) with stations at The Bike Crossing near a trail entrance and at the Ridgeland Visitors Center in Colony Park. A couple of Marriott-flag hotels in and around the Township at Colony Park are reported to lend guests free bikes too — worth a confirming call — and a local shop will deliver rentals to the visitors center by arrangement.
Stronger riders can point their wheels straight onto the Parkway itself: all 444 miles are a designated bike route with no stop signs or commercial traffic, and Ridgeland is a favorite staging town for multi-day Trace rides heading south toward Natchez. Guided six-day tours of the southern Trace start from the Jackson area if you’d rather have van support.
Spring and fall are the sweet spots; central Mississippi summers turn hot and sticky by mid-morning, so set out early and refill at the trailside fountains. The bikeshare runs sunrise to sunset year-round.
