Cycling in Rocheport

Tiny Rocheport (population a few hundred) punches far above its weight because it sits at mile marker 178.3 of the Katy Trail, the crushed-limestone rail-trail that runs 237 miles across Missouri — and because the stretch here, squeezed between Missouri River bluffs and the water, is the trail’s scenic high point. The 13.5-mile section west to Boonville makes a perfect family day, with rail-era attractions waiting at the far end.

The surface is packed crushed limestone, so the local fleets run to hybrids and gravel bikes rather than skinny tires. Aim for April–June or September–October: spring greenery and fall bluff color are the payoffs, while Missouri midsummer is hot and humid — if you come in July, ride early and let the café patio absorb the afternoon.
