Cycling in Sedona

Best season: March–May, September–November

Sedona is one of the few American towns where the hotels have bike-wash stations. The draw is 250+ miles of red-rock singletrack threading between the buttes — from the Western Gateway and Carroll Canyon systems on the west side to the Bell Rock corridor above the Village of Oak Creek — most of it rideable straight from town with no shuttle required.

Lodging here genuinely caters to riders. One boutique hotel on SR 179 lends free cruisers (helmets and locks included) and runs a dedicated “Bike Spa” with a wash bay and repair stand; a luxury resort in Boynton Canyon rents a premium mountain-bike and e-bike fleet from its own adventure hub and sends guests out with guides; and an adventure-branded hotel in West Sedona pairs gear storage and a tuning station with an advertised discount partnership at the town’s longest-running bike shop.

Rentals are pro-grade because the terrain demands it. Expect current full-suspension demo bikes from the West Sedona shops on 89A, with helmets, flat kits and car racks bundled in, and a well-stocked shop in the Village of Oak Creek if you’re basing near Bell Rock. Book ahead for spring — the festival-season fleets sell out.

Timing matters: March–May and September–November are ideal. Summer is hot enough that locals ride at sunrise, and winter brings mild days with occasional snow dustings that melt fast off the slickrock.
