Cycling in South Lake Tahoe
Best season: June–October (paths are snow-free; higher trails clear by early summer)
South Lake Tahoe pairs easy, mostly flat paved bike paths along the shoreline with serious mountain biking above town. Families and casual riders stick to the paved routes toward Camp Richardson, Pope Beach, Baldwin Beach and Fallen Leaf Lake, while stronger riders head for the singletrack and the classic Tahoe Rim Trail sections. Everything sits at roughly 6,200+ feet, so pace yourself the first day.
A handful of hotels make it easy to ride from your door. Hotel Azure, across the street from a bike path on Lake Tahoe Boulevard, is reported to lend guests bikes and provide seasonal bike storage, and the Postmarc Hotel & Spa Suites is reported to offer complimentary bikes in summer. Confirm both directly, since the programs are seasonal.
For rentals, Tahoe Bike Company on Harrison Avenue rents cruisers, road bikes, tandems, surreys and a full e-bike range (e-bikes from about $29/hour). Anderson’s Bicycle Rental sits right at the start of the Camp Richardson path on Emerald Bay Road, and South Lake E-Bikes specializes in pedal-assist rentals from around $50/day. Guided options exist too, from mountain-bike day tours to small-group e-bike rides. The riding season runs roughly June through October.
Each June, riders circle the lake on America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride, a fully supported road ride with 35-, 72-, and 100-mile options along the Tahoe shoreline.
