Best season: October–April
While the rest of the mountain West is buried in snow, St. George is in season. This corner of southwestern Utah — the towns of St. George, Hurricane, and Ivins, collectively marketed as Greater Zion — is where desert riders migrate from October through April. The crown jewel is Gooseberry Mesa above Hurricane, a playground of white slickrock ledges and ponderosa-dotted mesa top that rewards technical riders with rim-edge views; the nearby JEM Trail is its opposite number, a fast, flowy ribbon of singletrack that beginners and intermediates rave about.
Hurricane is the trailhead town: Over The Edge Sports sits minutes from Gooseberry, JEM, and Little Creek with a demo fleet of high-end mountain bikes and e-MTBs, and local guides run three-hour JEM tours that include the bike and a shuttle from the shop’s front door. In St. George proper, Red Rock Bicycle rents across three Southern Utah locations with online booking, and dedicated e-bike and delivery outfits cover everyone else.
Downtown, The Advenire hotel makes the logistics easy — a bike valet and wash station on site, plus a lobby service stand run by Rapid Cycling that delivers rental bikes to guests for free. Out at Ivins, a wellness resort sits at the mouth of Snow Canyon State Park, whose red-rock scenery is reachable by bike from the front gate.
Flip the usual calendar here: winter and shoulder seasons are prime, while summer afternoons regularly top 100°F. If you visit June through August, be on the trail at first light and off the exposed rock by late morning.
