Cycling in West Maui
Best season: Year-round (driest April–October)
West Maui — the Lahaina, Kāʻanapali, and Kapalua coast — is the island’s drier, leeward side and a popular base for road riders. The spine is the Honoapiʻilani Highway: relatively smooth and rolling from Lahaina up through the resorts to Kapalua, then narrow, steep, and shoulderless as it wraps the wild northwest tip toward Kahakuloa (the experienced-rider “West Maui Loop”).
Several shops here rent road and gravel bikes and will install your own pedals, so you can fly in with just pedals and a saddle if you like.
A note for returning visitors: the long-running West Maui Cycles in Lahaina closed after the August 2023 wildfire and has merged into Krank Cycles. The shops below are current as of mid-2026.
The marquee Haleakalā sunrise descent tours start in East Maui, not here.
